Make the Healthy Choice the Easy Choice

How do we make the healthy choice the easy choice?

I live and breathe making the healthier choice the easier choice for my clients. If you want to find out more about making healthy choices easier, I offer a free Exploratory Call, you can click and book on my FB Page or just pop me a message. Now, more than ever we need to look after our health.

One of main objections that people have to making healthy choices is that it is HARD. It is harder to choose healthier options whether you are in a supermarket, at home watching a Netflix or out at the cinema, eating out, having coffee with friends,

And I agree – It can be hard BUT it can be made easier.

Here’s my top tips for making the healthy choice the easy choice.

TIP NUMBER 1

Be clear about your WHY. Once you are clear about your WHY, then making healthy choices is easier. Victor Frankl who survived the concentration camps said, Once you know your WHY, you can survive almost any HOW. Closer to home I have a number of clients working on lowering their LDL cholesterol and increasing their HDL cholesterol. They would prefer NOT to start taking statins and so to minimise that risk they keep that reason to the front of their mind – they want to be heart healthy without medication. Sometimes the WHY needs to be challenged to get a bit deeper. There’s a great method call the 3 WHY’s or sometimes the 5 WHY’s. It goes like this?

Why should you make healthy choices?

Because I want to lose weight

Why?

Because I want to feel more confident

Why?

So I can enjoy life more, and stop avoiding going out.

Why?

So I can have a better relationship with my partner, family

Why? Well you get the picture.

So TIP NUMBER ONE, Be clear about your WHY

TIP NUMBER 2

There’s a hard way or there’s an easier way but there’s no easy peasy way.

But make it a bit easier on yourself. DON’T BUY THE UNHEALTHY STUFF. DON’T SURROUND YOURSELF WITH IT. It is insanity to expect yourself to be surrounded by the food you used to eat, which is addictive, and not eat it. It’s like saying to an alcoholic, at the start of a sobriety journey– lets go to the pub every night. Now after a while, going to the pub may be no problem but in the beginning it would be hell.

You will eat what you see – Make sure what you see fits with your health goals and that you have plenty of healthy options when you open your cupboard, fridge, freezer or on your worktop and even in your desk drawer.

TIP NUMBER 3

Educate yourself, understand, learn, ask questions.

Without the confidence that comes from knowing how to prepare quality food easily and within your price range you will be vulnerable to the aggressive marketing tactics of the food industry.

Without knowing how to read a label on the front and back of the packet you will be prey for the health hijackers.

Without understanding the role of food, of carbohydrates, the importance of fats and what protein is good for, you could end up eliminating whole food groups from your diet and you could end up doing more harm than good.

So, 3 of my top tips for making the healthy choice the easy choic

FIGURE out your WHY – dig deep on that one

DON'T BUY IT IN – You’ll eat what you see make sure you see the good stuff

LEARN, UNDERSTAND - Ask questions
